Position Summary

The HVAC Service Technician is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing residential heating and cooling systems while providing professional and knowledgeable service to customers. This position requires strong technical HVAC knowledge, effective communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately document system conditions, repairs, and recommendations.

Technicians are expected to maintain company standards for safety, professionalism, workmanship, customer service, attendance, and job documentation.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of hands-on HVAC industry experience
  • Residential HVAC service experience preferred
  • Universal EPA Certification required
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must be 25 years of age or older
  • Ability to successfully complete required background screening
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including marijuana
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English with customers, coworkers, dispatch, and management
  • Ability to clearly explain technical findings, repair options, and recommendations to homeowners
  • Ability to participate in a rotating, pre-scheduled on-call schedule
  • Reliable attendance and ability to report to work on time and prepared for scheduled shifts

Technical Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of residential heating and cooling systems
  • Knowledge of HVAC system components and their functions
  • Knowledge of electrical wiring and electrical troubleshooting
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC wiring diagrams
  • Ability to use appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing procedures
  • Ability to accurately diagnose mechanical, electrical, airflow, and system performance issues
  • Ability to determine appropriate repair options based on diagnostic findings
  • Ability to perform HVAC repairs safely and according to manufacturer and company standards
  • Ability to document system conditions using clear written notes and photographs
  • Ability to use company-provided mobile devices and software for service documentation and communication

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Diagnose residential HVAC system problems accurately and efficiently
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on residential heating and cooling equipment
  • Inspect equipment and identify existing or potential system concerns
  • Explain system conditions and diagnostic findings to homeowners in clear, understandable terms
  • Present appropriate repair and service options based on identified system needs
  • Complete assigned service calls efficiently while maintaining quality standards
  • Document diagnostic findings, work performed, recommendations, notes, and photographs accurately
  • Maintain communication with dispatch and office personnel regarding job status, scheduling, parts, and customer needs
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor while representing the company
  • Protect customers' homes and property while performing work
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area upon completion of each service call
  • Follow established company procedures, safety requirements, and service standards
  • Participate in required company meetings, technical training, and ongoing professional development
  • Maintain assigned company vehicle, equipment, inventory, phone, and tablet
  • Notify management of safety concerns, equipment issues, customer concerns, or situations requiring additional support
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Tools & Equipment

  • Technician is responsible for maintaining and providing required core hand tools
  • Company provides designated specialty tools and equipment
  • Company-issued vehicle, phone, and tablet must be maintained according to company policies
  • Technician is responsible for properly caring for company-issued tools, equipment, materials, and property

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach
  • Ability to work in attics, crawl spaces, mechanical areas, and other confined spaces
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and temperature conditions
  • Ability to safely climb and work from ladders
  • Ability to lift, carry, move, and handle HVAC tools, equipment, and materials as required
  • Ability to safely operate a company vehicle
  • Ability to perform physical HVAC service work throughout the scheduled workday
